Are you a busy mompreneur trying to juggle the demands of home and work life? Are you feeling the pressure of not having enough hours in the day? While it may seem like an impossible task, with a few simple changes this challenge can be turned around and make your workspace more conducive to helping you meet your goals. Here are five easy tips for optimizing your workspace so that it can help make managing both parenthood and business much easier.
1. Keep nutritious snacks in the bottom drawer of your desk. The number of times I get asked to go get a snack for my kids when I'm working is unbelievable. I started keeping my bottom drawer stocked with a few snack options so I can hand them something without getting up and lose my train of thought. Here's what I keep in mine – BEAR Real Fruit Snacks and Annie’s Organic Cheddar Bunnies
2. Turn your desk so your back is to a wall. If you're anything like me, you're on a lot of Zoom calls all day and doing FB lives. Inevitably, a child walks into the background on at least one occasion. Turning your desk to face outwards, into your office, also gives you room and space to breath, so you don’t feel so boxed in. If you have a window you can look out of, even better!
3. Treat yourself to a scent diffuser or scented candle. We all know, Mompreneurs are among the most stressed people around. The small addition of relaxing or energizing scents to your immediate surroundings can bring a little bit of calm to the chaos. I like to use essential oils because anything harsher gives me a headache but there are many other options out there. This is what I use Doterra - Serenity.
4. Remove obvious distractions. No, I don't mean your kids, lol, I mean obvious distractions in your surroundings. Reminders of all those other things you feel like you should be doing. If possible, try and work in a place away from things like piles of laundry, stacks of dishes, dinner etc. It's not possible for everyone to have a designated office space but avoiding the kitchen when possible or moving the laundry pile to another room while you work. can really help you focus on your business.
5. Surround yourself with little things that inspire you and make you happy. I love vision boards and inspirational quotes on canvases, but those are definitely not for everyone. Maybe you draw inspiration from music. Maybe you have a great mentor who wrote you an email that you can print out and tack it to your wall. Does achieving your goals inspire you? If so, hang up symbols of your accomplishments. Whether it’s a degree, a participation medal from a half marathon or 5k, your first stellar online review, hang it all up!
